As I wrote previously, you should visit original one if you like to visit Japanese castles. Next to Himeji castle my recommendation is "Matsumoto castle ( Matsumoto jo )" which is located in Matsumoto city , Nagano prefecture.
I heard the keep ( tenshukaku, center main tower ) of the castle was built around late 16th BC and I like its black color exterior with five layers. Also it has been designated for a national treasure.
It is not far from Tokyo and it takes around 2 and a half hours from Shijyuku station to the Matsumoto station by an express train. Matusmoto is colder than Tokyo so if you visit in Winter time please take care like bringing winter coat.
