How to enjoy TONKATSU .

It is common that the plate of the meat has thin sliced cabbages. Also usually it is served with rice and miso soup, which is called Teishoku.It is usual way to put saurce on the meat and cabbage but also recently some people love simple taste so that they enjoy just putting only salt. There is specialized sauce called Tonkatsu sauce which is sweeter and thicker than British Worcestershire sauce. Also a squeeze of lemon and/or mustard can be put on the meat as you like.  Those spice and source are available on your table. 

Restaurant in OCHANOMIZU, KANDA area in Tokyo

OCHANOMIZU area which is walking distance from Akihabara, is famous as school zone and for many book stores both for new and secondary, sport shops and music shops but there are many traditional and/or small individual restaurants as well including TONKATSU restaurants. Among them one of our recommended is Ponchi-ken.

5. Ponchi ken, ポンチ軒

The Ponchi ken has been moved, transferred  from another restaurant called Frittsu located in Akasaka, Tokyo and we visited the Frittsu around 10 years ago and loved its deep fried pork (which was not called Tonkatsu and I think reason was  because the Frittsu concept was western style and not Japanese style.)  The restaurant space is not so wide with around 20 seats. When we visited early around 17:30, we can have seat without reservation but soon around 1800, the seats were occupied including some seats reserved. So we recommend to make reservation prior if you visit.

Also there are deep fried beef, meat Korokke ( frying mashed potato balls with meat similar with croquette) in the menu.
