As I posted the pictures many times in google+, I love very much "Gyoza" which are dumplings filled with ground meat and vegetables and wrapped in a thin dough. I think the "Gyoza" is one of the most popular dish in Japan not only in restaurants but also at home. Also you can see many "Gyoza" already cooked or before cooking including frozen foods in supermarket stores in Japan, which is proofing its popularity.
Origin of the "Gyoza" has come from China as Jiaozi but it has been modified in Japan and already it has become Japan original food, I think. In China it is usual to cook boiling but in Japan it is most popular to be pan fried. You can have it at many "Ramen ( noodle )" restaurants, Chinese restaurants and also "Izakaya ( Japanese casual bar or pub ). Some ramen restaurants are focusing to serve only "Ramen" as specialists and not to serve "Gyoza" and also high class Chinese restaurants do not serve "Gyoza" as it is an affordable dish and not Chinese already, I told. So it is really a casual soul food for Japanese people.
Why I love "Gyoza" is because when I bite it I can feel very juicy meat and good taste mixed vegetables, meat (usually pork) and seasoning including salt, pepper, Chinese stock soup, other Chinese seasoning, garlic and so on. And it is very good dish having with beer which I love very much as well. The vegetables inside included usually Chinese chive called "Nira", cabbage or Chinese cabbage and all of them are chopped. We put mixed sauce which we mix soy sauce, vinegar and pepper oil called " Rahyu " on the table by ourselves.
There are a lot of restaurants serve the "Gyoza" and you can find good Gyoza easily but some time you might have not good one. So I would like to introduce "Gyoza" restaurants I love.
Recommended "Gyoza" restaurant in Ginza, Tokyo
1.Ginza Tenryu (銀座天龍）
They serve very big "Gyoza" and it is very delicious. It has been established since 1949 and is Chinese restaurant so you can have other Chinese food as well.
Also I heard they have brunch restaurant in Town Soramachi, shopping center at the sky tree,in Tokyo which is the highest tower in world. So you can have good "Gyoza" there as a good option when you visit the sky tree.
